Why this, Why Now

Resilience is under strain - for young people, and for the community around them.

13.5%
of 16-24 year olds in the UK are not in education, employment of training - the highest failure since 2013

9%
of 16-24 year olds report feeling lonely often or always higher than any other age group

Local charities and community groups are increasingly stretched thin, with little spare capacity to build the resilient systems that let them weather a difficult year.

Heart Safe Community Academy already has the clinical education infrastructure and facilitator network to respond.

This Initiative turns that capability outward, into the community, on a not-for-profit basis.

Our approach

Four strands. One resilient community.

Resilience is built at every level at once — in young people, in the organisations that support them, in the employers who give them a future, and in the everyday fabric of community life. Each strand completes part of the ring.

Community Wellbeing programme

Community Wellbeing Programme - CC_edited.jpg

Our Community Wellbeing Programme is a partnership between Heart Safe Community Academy and The Cotswold Coach, created to make health, movement and wellbeing support accessible to people who may otherwise struggle to access it.

We know that improving your health isn't always as simple as joining a gym. Poor mental wellbeing, low confidence, weight gain or weight loss, financial pressures, isolation and simply not knowing where to begin can all make taking that first step feel incredibly difficult.

That's why we're providing five local people with completely FREE, personalised 1:1 wellbeing and fitness support.

What does the programme provide?

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, each participant receives support based around their own circumstances, abilities and goals.

The programme can include personalised movement and fitness plans, support with healthier everyday habits, confidence building, regular 1:1 check-ins, encouragement and accountability, and opportunities to explore different ways of becoming more active.

Most importantly, it provides a friendly, supportive and non-judgemental environment where progress isn't measured simply by a number on the scales.

Success might mean having more energy, leaving the house more often, feeling confident enough to attend a class, becoming stronger, improving daily habits, managing stress better or simply beginning to feel more like yourself again.

Small steps can make a big difference

At Heart Safe Community Academy, community resilience isn't only about knowing what to do in an emergency. It's also about helping people build the confidence, connections and skills that can improve everyday life.

Through this project, we want to remove some of the financial and confidence barriers that prevent people from accessing wellbeing and physical activity support.

Our first programme will support five people from our local community, with the aim of learning from their experiences and developing the project further in the future.

💚 Help us support more people

We are also developing our Sponsor a Wellbeing Box initiative, where individuals and local businesses can contribute £25 to provide a participant with a thoughtfully put-together wellbeing box.

Boxes can vary according to the individual and may contain practical wellbeing, movement, self-care and motivational items designed to support them throughout their journey.

Every sponsored box is a small act of kindness that helps someone in our community know that someone is rooting for them.

Because stronger communities start with supported people.
